In short
- We do not collect any personal information. There is no account.
- Learning records stay on your device and in your own iCloud, and are never sent to us or any third party.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking.
- “Today’s story” is processed by Apple’s AI platform; we never receive its content.
Information the app stores
To keep learning going, the app stores the following on your device (see iCloud sync below). It is never sent to our servers and we cannot see it.
- Progress for each word (level, next review date, right and wrong counts, the choices and letter positions that were missed)
- Play history (date, number of questions, score, time), streak and stickers earned
- Your chosen buddy, grade level, and sound and music settings
If device backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup) are turned on, Apple includes this data in the backup like any other app’s data.
iCloud sync
When you are signed in to iCloud, the information above is synced between devices on the same Apple ID through Apple’s iCloud (a CloudKit private database and iCloud key-value storage), so it follows you to a new iPhone or a second one.
It is stored in your own iCloud account and handled under Apple’s privacy policy. We cannot access or see it. To stop syncing, turn the app off in Settings → Apple ID → iCloud.
Network use
The app has no servers of ours behind it and no feature that communicates with us or with third parties such as ad or analytics companies (iCloud sync above talks only to Apple’s iCloud). Word and sentence audio is built into the app and plays without a connection.
Today’s story (AI feature)
On devices that support Apple Intelligence, the app writes a short story with the words just learned using Apple’s Foundation Models. Processing happens on the device or, only when needed to write the story, on Apple’s Private Cloud Compute.
Only the English words from that round and the name of the chosen buddy are used — no personal information. Data processed by Private Cloud Compute is handled under Apple’s privacy commitments, is not stored, and is not accessible to anyone other than Apple, including us. The story is shown on the device only and is never sent to us.
Stories are read aloud with the speech synthesizer built into iOS.
Notifications
With your permission, the app schedules a learning reminder (around 6 pm) on the device itself (local notifications). We never collect a push token. You can turn reminders off anytime in Settings.
Children’s privacy
The app is designed for elementary and junior-high students. For everyone, regardless of age, it collects no personal information and has no advertising, analytics or tracking, no links to outside websites, and no way to interact with other users.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes the records stored on the device. Records synced to iCloud can be deleted in Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage. Data in backups can be removed by deleting the backup as Apple describes.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, for example when adding a feature, we will post the update on this page and change the date above. Significant changes will also be announced in the app.
